Hi Big
As a company we have found the best way to stop complaints from water fed poles is to educate the customer about the system.
Most people would expect the window cleaner to turn up wash the windows, squeegee the window and go away leaving the window dry and smear free. Instead they are getting someone turning up with a "hose pipe and long pole thingy, squirting water at the window and driving off again"
If the customer has never had wfp cleaning before I always spend 5 minutes with them going through the merits of the system and tend to find that as long as I have done this we very rarely get complaints.

yeah must agree with paul here. what i have done since changing over to reach system. i printed off some info on a a4 and gave that to the customer. had no complaints even tho first clean can be dodgy.
i find customer like to be kept upto date about this. i blamed the HSE for the change and customers understand this. even tho some customers like blood sweat and tears for there little cash. this is why i dont do domestics.

| Had some mad granny on phone this week asking when I was going to come back and leather her windows. I tried explaining about how the reach and wash works but she wasn't listening I would have had more success trying to teach her Chinese

must agree with paul again on this one.
i do however get loads of domestic customers requesting cleans and sometimes is hard to say no. but readying comments such as these it reminds me of the days when my dad would go back to collect money time again and then get moaned at.
problem is commercial is rear these days to get. i experiance a few domestic window cleaners nicking the odd job from us now and again. prob s most these days dont have the insurance ect to keep doing them. last week i broke a £400 sign in a shop! customer wasnt happy must say.
so i take my hat off to all you guys that clean the houses. i salute you.

Genesis or pual
I think your postings are very good and was wondering if you could tell me the best way of getting small commercial jobs such as shops and how to price them

Hi dependant on your location.
shops are hard to get as most domestic cleaning companies or even just sole traders go after them.
i have been cleaning mass amount of shops for many years now and find they can be profitable howvere very time consumining .
my advise would be get yourself a company name. you can use one even if sole trading.
get some cards made and go out and card up every thing in your area and around.
go in speak to the client as what they are getting how much they pay ect.
the problem is most small shop owners only want to pay silly money hence thats why u need lots of them to break profit.
you will need to get public liablility insurance thi sis a must. you dont want a claim against you. i got mine at http://fast-insure.co.uk or http://www.fast-insure.co.uk type that in your browser bar and do a search on the site. i got a great deal and pay hardly nothing per month by direct debit.
paul and myself here go after bigger contracts at the mo. these are a nother leuge trust me they are hard to get and you must be insured upto the the eyeballs once again try http://fast-insure.co.uk
that about it really. i would never take on domestic purely because of getting cash from them ect.
start out small and build from there.
i hope this helps.
regards Kevin genesis cleaning

Hi Richard hear, I have my own window cleaning bussniss over stratford upon avon way and have used reach and wash system for about 4 years now. I'm trying to break out from residential to commercial and was reading through some comments about how people can moan about they system, (I know all to well) and i came across your post and love your Idea of giving them a a4 peace of paper explaining about it. Such a simple idea but genius and i would never have thought of it. I wondered could you possibly send me an email of the letter you use so i could maybe try it myself. much appreciated Richard richard-cornfield@hotmail.co.uk

I prefer the old method does a beter job, i.e cob webs grime etc, water fed poles have their limitations!
I have written more about it on my site http://excel-clean.com
